When searching for cars with ugly headline color combinations, I discovered the A6 is available as a FWD 4 banger with a CVT... for $45k. A $45k stripped down model... And why do they list the ratios of a CVT? Or are they still confused in the same way they use the "T" suffix for supercharged engines?

Its in part due to the asian market. the german 3 are a sign that you have :"made it" So everyone buys them as soon as they can. but they dont want the A4 oh no. they want some bigger. but they want the small motor for taxes. so they get audi to spec a A6 with the 2.0L with FWD and a cvt for fuel econ. (get this..in asia, the A6 is also available as a long wheelbase...yea...)

TFSI = Turbocharged Fuel Stratified Injection
Gots chain timing instead of belt, internal changes and I think the Audis get variable valve lift too.

I think they've stopped selling the CVT but I imagine that when they quote eight ratios they mean the "virtual" ones created by making the CVT stop being a CVT as it were.
The majority of A6s sold in Europe have the 2 litre diesel four, other markets with cheap fuel differ.

They list the ratios because the tranny have some sort of preprogramed "steps" as far as I know. You can choose to have it act like a regular automagic.

Shhhhh!
Yeah, thats the weird one. Kinda like how the Mercedes SL65 doesnt actually have 6.5 liters of displacement, its really a 6.0 liter.

Oh don't get me started on the MB numbers... If I recall, there was one number that designated two different engines. Or two numbers that designated the same displacment? I forget and I'm not sure if that's still the case.

I remember back when Jaguar launched the XF and new XJ you could get this dark brown leather with a grey headliner and an orange-brown dash, it was so bad.

I personally wouldn't. Not a fan at all of fake leather.

I think Audi's CVTs do have fake gear ratios programmed in. Because, why not get rid of possibly the one positive aspect of CVTs (smoothness) and add a bit of unnecessary jerkiness.

The 2.0 isn't THE small motor though. You can get the A6 with a 1.8 TFSI in Europe. Looking at the performance numbers I don't see anything wrong with that 1.8L engine either, if you just want a nice car that engine is more than sufficient. If you want more performance Audi offers the bigger engines. If you want more frugality you can choose one of the 5 diesel engines (in Europe)
